Dishwasher won't start

Symptoms

What to do

1. Check that the control lock isn't on; look for a lock icon and hold that button for 3–5 seconds to release it.
2. Firmly close and latch the door, listening or feeling for a click, and try starting again.
3. Check the circuit breaker panel for a tripped breaker and check that the unit is plugged in if accessible.
4. Press and hold the start button for a few seconds, since some models need a firm hold rather than a tap.
5. Try unplugging the dishwasher (or switching off its breaker) for one minute to reset the control board, then power it back on.
6. If the display lights up but the cycle won't begin, inspect the door latch mechanism for a bent or worn part.
7. If there's still no power or response after these checks, have an appliance technician test the control board and door switch.
