Symptoms

What to do

1. Test if the film is removable by soaking one glass in white vinegar for a few minutes; if it clears, it's mineral buildup, not etching.
2. Fill the rinse aid dispenser completely and increase the dispenser setting if your model allows it.
3. Run an empty cycle with 1–2 cups of white vinegar in a bowl on the top rack to dissolve mineral buildup in the tub.
4. Increase the detergent amount per the package's hard-water instructions if you have known hard water.
5. Check your water heater is set to around 120°F so detergent dissolves fully during the wash.
6. Consider a water softener or dishwasher-specific hard-water additive if the problem is ongoing and you have hard water.
7. If the vinegar test doesn't clear the film, the glass is likely permanently etched and won't improve with cleaning.
