Symptoms

Likely causes

3. If the tank holds air fine, check the pressure switch's cut-in and cut-out settings, which a well technician can widen slightly for less frequent cycling.
4. Listen for pressure dropping abnormally fast right after the pump shuts off, which points to a check valve issue rather than the tank.
5. If cycling continues despite a good tank and switch, professional evaluation of pump sizing and overall system design may be needed.
6. Avoid running the pump excessively while diagnosing, since repeated short cycling accelerates wear on the motor.
