GFCI outlet won't reset

Symptoms

• Pressing 'reset' does nothing or it pops right back out
• Outlet and everything downstream of it have no power
• Test/reset buttons feel stuck or don't click

Likely causes

• CommonA genuine ground fault on the circuitA wet appliance, damaged cord, or moisture in an outdoor box can trip protection and block reset.

What to do

1. Check the breaker panel first and reset any tripped breaker feeding this outlet.
2. Unplug everything connected to this GFCI and anything plugged into outlets downstream of it.
3. Press reset firmly; you should feel and hear a click.
4. If it still won't reset, dry the area around the outlet, especially outdoors or near water.
5. Check if any downstream outlets or the device itself have gotten wet recently.
6. If it clicks but immediately trips again, unplug items one at a time to isolate a faulty device.
7. If it never even clicks, or clicking does nothing, the GFCI itself has likely failed and needs replacement.
