Garage door won't close

Symptoms

• Door starts to close then reverses back up
• Opener light blinks a specific number of times

Likely causes

1. Check both safety sensors near the bottom of the tracks for dirt, cobwebs, or misalignment; wipe the lenses clean.
2. Make sure both sensors' indicator lights are solid, not blinking, which usually indicates good alignment.
3. Clear the door's path of any objects, and check for anything blocking sensor sightlines, including direct sunlight hitting a sensor.
4. Gently adjust one sensor's bracket at a time until both lights are solid.
5. Check exposed sensor wiring for damage and reconnect anything loose.
6. If sensors check out fine, inspect the track for visible damage or obstructions the door might be hitting.
