Symptoms
- Video disappears or flickers when soundbar is powered on
- Audio plays fine even though picture is lost
- Issue happens with one source device but not others
- Reconnecting cables temporarily restores video
Likely causes
- CommonSoundbar HDMI passthrough not handling the video signal correctlyWhen a source is plugged into the soundbar which then connects to the TV, resolution or copy-protection mismatches can drop video.
- CommonHDCP (copy protection) handshake failure through the soundbarSome soundbars struggle to pass HDCP 2.2/2.3 signals required for 4K streaming content.
- PossibleOutdated soundbar firmwareFirmware updates often specifically address HDMI passthrough compatibility issues.
- PossibleFaulty or non-compliant HDMI cableA cable not rated for the required bandwidth can drop video especially at 4K/HDR.
- Less commonFailing HDMI input/output port on the soundbarPhysical port damage can cause intermittent or total signal loss.
What to do
- If possible, connect the source device (streaming box, game console) directly to the TV, and connect the soundbar to the TV via ARC/eARC instead of passthrough.
- Update the soundbar's firmware to the latest available version.
- Try a different, certified high-speed HDMI cable rated for 4K/HDCP 2.2 if using 4K sources.
- Lower the source device's output resolution temporarily to see if a lower resolution passes through reliably.
- Power cycle the source device, soundbar, and TV in sequence: source off, soundbar off, TV off, then back on in that order.
- Test a different HDMI port on both the soundbar and TV.

When to call a pro
If video keeps failing specifically through the soundbar's passthrough and switching to ARC isn't an option, contact the manufacturer, as it may be a known compatibility limitation.
Safety
Generally low risk for a careful person. Stop if anything looks different from what this guide describes.
