CD player skips or won't read discs

Symptoms

Likely causes

3. Place the player on a stable, flat, vibration-free surface.
4. Use a CD lens cleaner disc, or carefully clean the lens with a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol if accessible.
5. Check that the disc is inserted with the correct side facing down/up as intended.
6. If the player is portable, check for a battery or power issue that could cause motor speed inconsistency.
7. If all discs skip or fail to read after cleaning, the laser assembly may be wearing out.
