What to do
- Check whether the slider is just off the track (it will still look intact) versus worn out.
- If it's off the track, thread it back on: most sliders go on more easily from the bottom, with the two teeth rows fed in from below.
- Once threaded, zip up slowly to confirm it grips and travels smoothly.
- If there's no stop at the bottom, sew a few tight stitches or add a bar tack just below the end to keep the slider from running off again.
- If the slider is worn out, buy a replacement of the matching size (sizes like #3, #5, #8 are usually stamped on the pull) and pull the old one off with pliers.
- Slide the new one onto both teeth rows starting from the bottom, matching the original orientation.
