4. If accessible from below, the drain's slip-joint or gasket connection may just need tightening or resealing.
5. If access is only from above through the shower floor, this usually requires removing the drain cover and possibly the strainer to inspect and reseal the gasket.
6. For a shower pan or tub crack, this is a larger repair involving the pan or tub itself, not just the drain fitting.
7. Address any water-damaged ceiling material only after the leak source itself has been fully repaired.
