Symptoms

• Upshifts happen at unusually low RPM, engine feels like it's laboring
• Or the opposite: holds gears too long, revving higher than expected
• Shift points changed noticeably from how the car used to drive
• May be worse in certain driving modes if equipped

What to do

1. Check which drive mode is selected (Normal, Eco, Sport, Tow/Haul) and switch back to the default to rule that out.
2. Check the transmission fluid level and condition.
3. If a battery was recently disconnected or fluid changed, drive normally for 50–100 miles to let the computer relearn shift points before assuming there's a fault.
4. Check for a check-engine light and get codes read if one is present.
5. Note if shift points feel consistently early, consistently late, or erratic and inconsistent.
6. Have a shop scan for sensor-related codes if the behavior doesn't improve after relearning and mode checks.
7. Get the specific sensor or component repaired once identified rather than living with poor shift points.
