Car won't start - can't hear the fuel pump at all

Symptoms

7. Consider fuel pump replacement history and mileage; most pumps last well over 100,000 miles but can fail earlier.
8. Have a mechanic test fuel pressure directly rather than relying only on sound, since some pumps run quietly even when working.
