Brake light isn't working

Symptoms

• Brake light doesn't illuminate when pressing the pedal
• Other drivers mention your brake light is out
• Third/center brake light may work while side ones don't, or vice versa
• Cruise control also stopped working (can be linked to the same switch)

Likely causes

4. Check the fuse box for a blown brake light fuse and replace with the correct amperage.
5. Check if cruise control also isn't working, which often shares the same switch as brake lights.
6. Test the brake light switch by pressing it manually (with the key on) if accessible under the dash.
7. Have a shop replace the brake light switch if bulbs and fuses check out fine.
8. Get this fixed promptly, since driving with a brake light out is both a safety hazard and can result in a traffic citation.
