- Look for melted plastic, discoloration, or a burnt smell around the resistor and its connector, which confirms the failure.
- Replace the resistor (or blower control module on newer cars) since these are inexpensive and commonly sold as a direct bolt-in part.
- Inspect and clean the connector pins before reconnecting, since corrosion here can cause a repeat failure.
- Test all fan speeds after replacement to confirm the fix worked.
