Symptoms
- No visible mist even though the unit is on
- Water level looks fine but nothing comes out
- Unit runs quietly with no mist sound
- Mist stopped gradually over a few days
Likely causes
- CommonWater tank empty or lowMany units have a safety shutoff that stops misting once the tank runs low.
- CommonMineral scale buildup on the ultrasonic disc or heating elementHard water leaves a crusty film that blocks vibration or heating.
- CommonDirty or clogged wick filter (evaporative models)A saturated, mineral-crusted wick can't absorb and release water properly.
- PossibleTank not seated correctly on the baseMisalignment can prevent water from reaching the misting mechanism.
- Less commonFailed ultrasonic transducer or fan motorNo mist even with a full tank and clean components.
What to do
- Refill the tank fully with clean water and reseat it firmly on the base.
- Unplug the unit and check the ultrasonic disc (a small metal or ceramic disc in the water basin) for a white, crusty film; wipe it gently with a soft cloth or an old soft toothbrush.
- Soak removable parts in equal parts water and white vinegar for 20–30 minutes to dissolve mineral scale, then rinse thoroughly.
- If the unit uses a wick filter, check it for heavy white buildup and replace it if it's stiff or crusted.
- Use distilled or demineralized water going forward if tap water is hard, since this greatly reduces scale buildup.
- Reassemble, refill, and test; if there's still no mist with a clean disc and full tank, the transducer or motor may have failed.

When to call a pro
Call an appliance technician or consider replacement if the mist doesn't return after descaling and a full tank, since a failed ultrasonic transducer usually isn't repairable.
