Likely causes

What to do
- Turn off power and check for and remove any jam using a hex wrench and tongs.
- Feed food waste in smaller amounts with a strong stream of cold water running.
- Let the disposal cool for 10–15 minutes if it's warm to the touch before resetting again.
- Press the red reset button on the bottom of the unit firmly.
- Test with just water running and the disposal on, no food, to see if it holds without tripping.
- If it keeps tripping with no jam and no load, the motor is likely wearing out.
